Join Paul Brookes from Tavistock Ramblers for an all day 12.5 mile linear walk from Lydford to Belstone via Gt Links Tor, Vellake Corner, Meldon Reservoir, Rowtor, Cullever Steps.
Tracks, open moorland, ascents and descents, some uneven ground. The Chapel Tea Rooms in Belstone will be open for walkers to avail themselves of a well deserved cup of tea and a piece of cake at the end of their walk. It will be necessary to take car(s) to Belstone Car Park (SX621938) in order to return walkers to Lydford. Parking at both car parks is free of charge.

Walk overview

This guided walk of 5 miles will take us along a level, well-surfaced path beside the rushing River Teign from Fingle to Clifford Bridge in the stunning wooded gorge below Castle Drogo. We’ll hope for views of heron, kingfisher and dippers – our only diving and swimming songbird. There will be an optional diversion to Upperton Weir.

This activity is considered a Category 1 ramble over gravel path and gentle inclines.

01/09/2019 | Dartmoor and the First World War Easy walk

Walk overview

During the morning we will visit the Okehampton Battle Camp museum and look at artefacts of the military use of the Dartmoor during the First World War. Lt Col Tony Clark, previously Commandant of the Dartmoor Training Area, and the present Commandant , Lt Col Crispin d’Apice, will give an explanation with illustrations of how troops trained and lived before deploying to the trenches.

Booking is required for this activity as group size is limited.

Parking is available at Okehampton Battle Camp Drive to the main gate of the camp and take with you some photo I.D like a Driving Licence to gain entry. NO I.D. NO Entry NO exception NO walk! You will be directed to the parking on the parade ground by the security gate staff.

Walk overview

Join Paul Brookes from Tavistock Ramblers for a linear walk of between 12 and 14 miles (depending on preferences on the day) from Belstone to Chagford via belstone Cleave, Cosdon stone rows, Throwleigh, Gidleigh (extension to Scorhill Circle and Kestor), Murchington, R.Teign. The walk is over racks, open moorland, green lanes, quiet lanes, one stream crossing, ascents and descents, some uneven ground.

It will be necessary to leave some cars at Belstone (free parking) and relocate others to Chagford (See Pay & Display board on arrival – parking is charged differently on a Sunday).
