Every walk provides clear information about the route being taken including a map of the starting point, as well as information about cost, booking and if you can bring your dog. If you have any questions about the activity, you can also contact the guide for further information

30/08/2020 | 4,000 years of history around Leedon Tor and the quarries of Foggintor and Swelltor Moderate walk

Walk overview

Walk back in time with John Noblet of Tavistock Ramblers from Leeden Tor to Ingra Tor then on to Foggintor and Swelltor quarries. Return via the old railway track bed to Ingra Tor and Routrundle. A fascinating area littered with history from the past 4,000 years.

If you are bringing a dog on this walk you are responsible to ensure you comply with the National Park byelaws by having your dog under close control at all times. The guide reserves the right to ask you to put your dog on a lead if felt necessary.

30/08/2020 | Ten Tors Taster Walk Strenuous walk

Walk overview

Join Ten Tors Team Manager and trainer Shona Fernyhough for a challenging 12 mile walk exploring a taste of the Ten Tors challenge. We will be visiting a number of the Northern-most checkpoints in the challenge, including the start
and finish and the highest location in the South West of England. Please wear robust footwear and bring waterproofs and food and drink for the day.
Shona is a great advocate of the many benefits of wilderness adventure. She greatly enjoys sharing her enthusiasm and love for the moor.
For capable 16 yrs and older only. Under 18s to be accompanied by an adult.
Because Shona is a Ten Tors team trainer and also a member of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team she asks that when booking please could you provide a brief outline of walking experience along with next of Kin details and relevant medical information (treated in strictest confidence) in order that she has covered every safety contingency possible in the planning.

12/09/2020 | Navigation for Beginners Easy walk

Walk overview

This course covers the basics of map and compass use, enabling you to begin to navigate safely and plan a route. Complete beginners are welcome, as is anyone with some experience who wishes to consolidate their skills. The walk will be entirely outdoors, covering a circular route of five to eight miles, learning and practising as we go. There will be a maximum of four trainees and we will keep 2 metres apart owing to the pandemic. Please be aware that all walks on Dartmoor with Moorland Guides must be subject to possible changes or even cancellations due to the pandemic so it is important to keep in touch with the guide as to the status of this event nearer the date.

Walk overview

A gentle circular walk full of historic interest; from abandoned mines, though a medieval village to the Bronze Age settlement of Grimspound. Our pace will allow time to explore these historic sites and enjoy the scenery, with some fine views. Along paths and tracks that can be uneven and steep in places.

Walk overview

Exploring the middle of the north moor and visting Fur Tor. Route will be via the wonderful and tricky Tavy Cleave – a place unlikely anywhere on Dartmoor. Crossing a number of rivers including Rattlebrook and Amicombe Brook. After visting the Queen of the Moor, we shall come back via Watern Oak and Ger Tor.
