MAP-READING AND USE OF COMPASS – AN INTRODUCTION

Walk Overview

With the aim of improving your confidence, enjoyment and safety when walking on the moor the day will teach the basic techniques of map-reading and using a compass. It is suitable for complete beginners or those wishing to improve. We will cover orientating the map; interpreting features; calculating distances and directions and planning and following a simple route. Maps and compasses are provided but you are welcome to bring your own. A list of other recommended equipment and additional information will be supplied on booking. Family groups are very welcome.

Other dates or times are available (currently May 26,27,30, Jun 1,2). Entirely bespoke days for groups can also be arranged. Mentored navigation days making use of the various techniques are also run.
