Join us this half term for a fantastic family Spring walk on Dartmoor! This family friendly walk will start at Hound Tor at 10am and will head down to the medieval village, via Great Tor (great for a bit of scrambling fun for kids) across Holwell Lawn through bluebell scented air before looping back to the car park. The bluebells on Dartmoor come out at different times each year so we hope to see them but if they’re been and gone, there will still be a treasure trove of flora and fauna to spot.

It will last 3 hours and is suitable for all ages. Dartmoor themed spring activity sheets will be available at no extra cost for children who would like them. It will cost £20 for a family (2 adults + 2 children) or £12.50 for one adult. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

This week, our walk will be run by Ian Johnstone. Ian started the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme at school, gaining his gold Award in 1969. It was this that started his fondness for Dartmoor as his expeditions were done here. After completing gold Ian went on to become an assessor for the D of E expeditions in 1971. He started teaching in a primary school near Heathrow and moved to Devon to be near Dartmoor in 1976. It wasn’t long before he joined the Rescue Group and the DNP guides – in 1978. He is now semi-retired, enjoying some supply teaching, running his own living history business for schools and guiding. His particular interests are archaeology of all types and legends, but his walks always include flora, fauna and geology- anything to do with the moor.
