05/02/2022 | Mustard Seed Walks – Warhorse Walk Moderate walk

Walk overview

Simon Dell, the Director of the Moorland Guides has kindly agreed to join our Mustard Seed Walk to guide us around the area made famous for the filming of ‘Warhorse’. We will start at the Gutter Tor car parking area, making the short ascent to Gutter Tor looking at the Cists and the little known Gutter tor cross. Then we will visiy the great vermin trap and the trig Point memorial to Bernie Probert. On to Ditsworthy looking at the filming areas and also a view of the area where Albert and Joey raced the Rolls Royce. Simon will then give us a look at Ditsworthy history and also the places of the film. We will walk up the grassy rise to Drizzlecombe and maybe up to Eylesbarrow Tin Mine if time permits.

05/03/2022 | Conchies Walk with Simon Dell Easy walk

Walk overview

Simon Dell has kindly agreed to lead the Mustard Seed Walks group on this interesting and informative walk to the Conchies Road – (Conscientious Objectors) near Princetown. We will meet outside the DNPA Visitors Centre to walk to Tor Royal and on to the Conchies road to Crock of Gold. Our return route will take us via Bachelors Hall. Simon will enlighten us about WW1 history, stories of the conscientious objectors at Princetown, and the memorial to those who dug the Conchies Road.
Please note: dogs allowed but must be kept on a short lead.

01/04/2022 | Haytor Walk for the Tenth Anniversary day Moderate walk

Walk overview

The walk will be from Haytor visitor’s car park on a circular route which will take in Haytor Quarries, Smallacombe rocks. Holwell Tor Quarries up to Haytor and back to the visitor’s car park. The route is along grass tracks with some single tracks. A short distance along grass and boggy paths where a little more careful walking required. The walk back from Haytor to the car park is down a steep hill which can be slippery when wet. This walk is aimed at anyone who would like a walk over the moors who can easily walk 6km.The walk will include a talk on granite, quarries, bronze age habitats bogs and tors. The distance is 6km.Toilets are available at the visitors’ center car park. Dogs on leads please. Bring plenty of layers including waterproofs. Good walking boots/shoes as the weather on the moors is colder and wetter than at sea level. A packed lunch and snacks. Water and a hot drink if weather is cool. Sun protection as required. We will stop for a picnic break.
There are car parking charges. £2 for two hours and £4 all day. If you do not wish to pay charges 400meters along the road is a nonpaying car park but is on rough ground.

23/04/2022 | Waterfalls Walk Moderate walk

Walk overview

The Mustard Seed Walks will once again enjoy this delightful walk up to the waterfalls on the East Dart River. Meeting at the DNPA Visitors Centre at Postbridge, We will take the track from the centre up towards Broad Down then descend into the East Dart Valley and the small group of falls. Crossing the river here we will follow the East Dart back down the valley track eventually arriving at Hartland Tor. From here it is a short descent back to the visitor centre.
Please note, there are streams to cross which may result in wet feet – part of the charm of Dartmoor!
Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a short lead please.
