Walk overview

Starting from Shipley Bridge Car Park (toilets available), we will visit the Hunters stone before walking onto the moors to Black Tor. Contouring the land with beautiful views into the Avon Valley we will visit Rider’s Rings, a Bronze Age settlement. After descending Zeal Gully to the base of the Avon Dam we will cross the river and climb up to walk alongside Avon Reservoir, before picking up a small portion of the Abbot’s Way which will take us to a good path leading up tp Pupers Hill. We will continue on to Ryder’s Hill, visible in the distance, passing Snowdon on the way. From here we will walk south to Huntington Warren, descending to a Clapper Bridge over the Avon River. A short but stiff climb will take us up to Petre’s Cross on Western White Barrow. Next we will visit Eastern White Barrow, a prominent Barrow visible for much of our walk. Picking up an old tramway we will then traverse Brent Moor before descending through some clay settling pits back to the car park.
