08/09/2024 | The Tavistock Canal – industrial history and a poetry trail. An accessible walk Easy walk

Walk overview

A walk along the tow path of the Tavistock Canal from Tavistock towards the tunnel. This walk is suitable for people using electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters and is a Level 1 walk, flat on a gravel track. After rain it can become muddy – Level 2. Able bodied walkers are also welcome.
We will look at the industrial history of the canal and also the recent poetry trail along the route. This is wooded route with woodland flowers and birds. It also has views across to Dartmoor through the trees.
Parking is at Bedford Road carpark which has accessible toilets.

This accessible walk starts and finishes at Fingle Bridge Inn. It follows the River Teign upstream looking at industry as well as trees, lichens and mosses and the historical Deer Park.
