Walk overview
This walk, park of the Walking Festival will be a good long stroll starting from the Haytor Visitor Centre and walking a circuit as far as Hamel Down. It will be a tough walk so be prepared. We will visit Haytor Quarry, Smallacombe Rocks before descending to Becca Brook then a steep climb to the medieval village and on to Hound Tor. A short road walk will take us close to Bowerman’s Nose before we head off to Kitty Jay’s Grave and on to Natsworthy Gate. A pleasant grassy walk will take us to Grimspound Bronze Age settlement from where we will head uphill onto Hamel Down. This will eventually take us down to the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, where we could take a break for a cuppa! Another climb up a quiet road will take us to Bonehill Rock and across Bonehill Down, where we will enter Emsworthy Mire – which will probably be wet. This will bring us out near Saddle Tor and then onto Hayton Rocks, from where it’s all downhill! Please bring food and drink for the day.
