07/08/2021 | STEPPING STONES WALK Easy walk

Walk overview

From the CP we will drop down over the bridge and past Dunnabridge Pounds towards Laughter Hole Farm.  Our first set of stepping stones are across the East Dart River. A pleasant stroll will take us through a farm and we will follow the river to Badger’s Holt.  Then through Huccaby and over Hexworthy Bridge to Hexworthy.  A road towards Sherberton will take us to the next set of stepping stones before our last grand arc of stones take us across the West Dart River (see photo). 

Dogs – This may be a difficult walk for dogs, due to the stepping stones.  But all dogs MUST be on a short lead which must be attached to its owner.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE – If there has been a lot of rain in the lead up to this walk it will be rerouted – a walk over Bellever Tor and Bronze Age remains.

Take some cars to Bellever. From Bellever, Powder Mills, Longaford Tor, West Dart Rivewr, Lydford Tor, Baggator Gate, Coffin wood and Willsworthy. Please book by 4pm the day before.
There will be car sharing on this trip – Covid rules will be applied at all times. Bring face mask and hand gel.

Join Tim Ferry on this walk which is restricted to 10 participants, and is aimed at people with an interest in rewilding. We will pass through ancient woodland, naturally regenerating woodland and scrub, lightly-grazed private moorland and more heavily-grazed common land and discuss the issues they present. 28/08/2021 | River, forest and moor – classic Dartmoor – Mobility scooter event Moderate walk

Walk overview

Guided walk beginning by the East Dart River and the ancient clapper bridge in Bellever Forest which then goes through the forest before heading out onto the moor near Laughter Tor. This walk is aimed at people using mobility scooters but all walkers welcome.
We will meet for all these accessible events at 1030am for an 11am start to give time for unloading scooters etc and preparations.
Walking grade medium walkers- level 2
Mobility scooters – category 3. Gravel forest paths with some inclines. Option to go up Laughter Tor which is steep and on rough grass paths

29/08/2021 | Visit the White Tor Neolithic settlement with the National Park Archaeologist. Moderate walk

Walk overview

Meet Simon Dell and archaeologist Dr Lee Bray at Cox Tor Car Park at 10am and we will walk north to White Tor to visit and discuss the new interpretations and features of the Neolithic evidence there with Lee Bray, National Park archaeologist who recently surveyed the area. We will walk back for mid-afternoon via other historic sites on the way.

This guided walk will go through the scenic village of Belstone and then up onto the moor to the Nine Maidens stone circles. Learn about the myths of the stones and admire the views to the north and west before moving on to the East Okement river and Cullever Steps. A guided accessible walk on the old railway following the West Devon Way. It passes through wood and moorland to the Shaugh tunnel. This walk is on tarmac or hard gravel with gentle gradients.

01/09/2021 | A River Plym Flirtation Strenuous walk

Walk overview

Starting from the Blackaton Cross car park near Cadover Bridge we will walk up to Great Trowelsworthy Tor with its wonderful views, then on to Plym Steps via Hen Tor. After crossing the River Plym we will ascend to Higher Hartor Tor before a lovely stroll down the greensward passing standing stones and menhirs to visit Dittsworthy Warren House, made famous in the film ‘The War Horse’. We will then head to Legis Tor before following the River to Cadover Bridge and back to the car park. This walk will cover rocky ground, tracks, open moorland and boggy areas and have one or two stream crossings.
