24/08/2019 | Okehampton Battle Camp Visit Easy walk

Walk overview

During the morning we will visit the Okehampton Battle Camp museum and look at artefacts of the military use of the Dartmoor during the First World War. Lt Col Tony Clark, previously Commandant of the Dartmoor Training Area, and the present Commandant , Lt Col Crispin d’Apice, will give an explanation with illustrations of how troops trained and lived before deploying to the trenches.

Booking is essential.

Drive to the main gate of the camp and take with you some photo I.D like a Driving Licence to gain entry.NO I.D. NO Entry. NO exception. NO walk!
You will be directed to the parking on the parade ground by the security gate staff.

A walk along a section of Drakes trail, which is part of the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 27.
Taking in the iconic features of RAF Harrowbeer, Gem Bridge & Brunel’s Grenofen tunnel, with distant views towards the Moor.
Mainly a good tarmac surface with a short on road (quiet) section & there are some gentle inclines.

26/08/2019 | Mary – Michael Pilgrimage Walk Day One Easy walk

Walk overview

This is a gentle pilgrimage stroll on Day One of the Mary – Michael Way from Brentor Church through Lydford and ending at Sourton Church. Total distance, 8 miles. From Brentor to Lydford – 5 miles. The walk is being led by a qualified Dartmoor guide from Moorland Guides. We will have a lunch stop at Nicholls Hall, Lydford. Cream Teas will be provided at Sourton Village Hall, with supper for Pilgrims who want to stay overnight. Accommodation with a meal and breakfast in the morning will be provided. We will meet on Day one at 10am at Sourton in the Village Hall Car park then relocate to Brentor Church Car Park to start the walk. There will be plenty of opportunity to experience quiet reflection and contemplation along this stroll with far reaching views and calling in at significant points of interest along our route. Full details available from Rev Adrian by email. Bring a camp bed etc. for staying overnight or arrange your own lift home and return in the morning for day two.
