Walk overview

Most visitors to Dartmoor try to avoid the bogs and mires that make up so much of the landscape, but this is your chance to explore a bog. Come along an join Barbara Swinfen to find out about the amazing plants and animals that make up this fascinating habitat, and why it is so important. We hope to visit M18 & M19 and also L19. This should be an easy walk of 2 miles on tracks and over open moorland but will take in some boggy areas so boots are essential, and wellington boots advisable. Parking at the Hay Tor Visitor Centre car park is pay and display, and there are facilities at the centre.

This event is aimed at Ramblers who use disability access vehicles such as scooters, trampers etc as well as families with all-terrain push chairs. Anyone is welcome to join these series of events over the festival, which will stick to accessible tracks. Each of these events will be led by a wheeled guide experienced in accessible rambling as well as a Moorland Guide. Take a packed lunch with you and clothing suitable for the changeable weather on Dartmoor. This ramble will last most of the day with an option to leave midway. We will use the old railway cycle track from Sourton and go south as well as north with a midway stop back at Sourton for lunch. Depending on the weather the guide will chose which routes to do in the morning and the afternoon on the day. This ramble is graded as the easiest at Level One suitable for most types of accessible vehicles.
The meeting point is on the road which goes past the Bundu Campsite on the old road up to the former Prewley Moor Arms. Easy unloading of wheelchairs and trampers here. There are toilets at the campsite and cycle hire.

Take a packed lunch with you and clothing suitable for the changeable weather on Dartmoor. This event will start at the gravel car park beside the main A386 road between Mary Tavy and Lydford on Black Down at the north end near where the cattle grid used to me. This is at the entrance where there is the drop down barrier leading to the Wilsworthy Ranges. This event will use the tracks and roads around the area with great views over the moors. The route is graded as level one / two so suitable for average vehicles. It was last for the morning and into the early afternoon.

Walk overview

Join your guide [and the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust] for a gentle stroll of less than two miles over open grassland and paths taking in the area of Bellever to learn about how people used to live on Dartmoor, the role the ponies played in their lives and how ponies are used today to help manage the moor. The walk will be restricted to Dartmoor 365 squares K11 and L11. Parking at the Visitor Centre is currently free but please check on current status nearer the date. There are facilities nearby and at the Centre. This is a free walk, but donations to the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust will be gratefully received.

This event will start at the public car park near the river in Bellever Woods down the hill not far from the Youth Hostel, ( NOT up the hill near Postbridge) . There is a Pay & Display car park even for blue badge holders so take some coins with you. There are disabled toilets at the car park. This event will be a level two and also a level three ramble depending on what you want and visiting the moorland around Bellever Tor. Suitable for the more robust tramper type of vehicle. Reserve the whole day for this event. Meet near the toilets at 11am to give the guide from Cornwall time to get there.

Anyone is welcome to join these series of events over the festival, which will stick to accessible tracks. Each of these events will be led by a wheeled guide experienced in accessible rambling as well as a Moorland Guide. Take a packed lunch with you and clothing suitable for the changeable weather on Dartmoor. This ramble will last most of the day with an option to leave midway. We will use the old railway cycle track from Clearbrook to go north to Yelverton where there are toilets and refreshment facilities.
This ramble is graded as the easiest at Level One suitable for most types of accessible vehicles.
The meeting point is on the road which goes from the main A386 Roborough Down and leads downhill to Clearbrook Village. The car park is on the right just before you go over the old leat bridge.

This event will start at the rough trackside parking area on the Okehampton Military ring road where the barrier is, which drops down when firing is taking place (none today!). We will be using the military ringroad which is rough and will take some time and a strenuous day. There are no facilities nearby at all.
This event will be a level two / three ramble suitable for the more robust tramper type of vehicle. Reserve the whole day for this event. Meet at 11am to give the guide from Cornwall time to get there.

Anyone is welcome to join these series of events over the festival, which will stick to accessible tracks. Each of these events will be led by a wheeled guide experienced in accessible rambling as well as a Moorland Guide. Take a packed lunch with you and clothing suitable for the changeable weather on Dartmoor. The ramble will start at the public car park at Belstone Village on the left as you approach the village. There are some limited facilities at the village hall but there are facilities at the Old Chapel Tea Rooms in the village which will be open today. Parking is free. We will be going out in the morning and also in the afternoon and using the Old Chapel Tea Rooms for lunch so bring some cash with you! The morning will be up into the Taw Valley looking at wonderful views. You can leave at lunchtime if you only want a morning ramble but if you want to stay on for another in the afternoon then that is also available to extend this into an all day event.
This event will be a level two / three ramble suitable for the more robust tramper type of vehicle. Reserve the whole day for this event. Meet at 11am to give the guide from Cornwall time to get there.

This event is aimed at Ramblers who use disability access vehicles such as scooters, trampers etc as well as families with all-terrain push chairs. Anyone is welcome to join these series of events over the festival, which will stick to accessible tracks. Each of these events will be led by a wheeled guide experienced in accessible rambling as well as a Moorland Guide. Take a packed lunch with you and clothing suitable for the changeable weather on Dartmoor. The ramble is near Burrator Dam and Reservoir. There are toilet facilities at Burrator Dam.
We will meet at 10am at the Arboretum Car Park – carry on from the dam with the lake on your right (don’t go over the dam). Go all the way to the end of the reservoir and over the narrow Norsworthy Bridge and the road the doubles back and continues around the lake. The Arboretum car park is on the left and clearly marked just around another right hand bend.
This ramble is graded as the easiest at Level One suitable for most types of accessible vehicles.
