28/07/2018 | Fur Tor Walk (rearranged from March) Strenuous walk

Click here to view activity details

On Saturday 28th July we will be doing this walk which had to be cancelled from March because of the weather and illness. Join Simon Dell on this walk across the open high moor. We will start at Baggator Gate which does not have much parking available so it might be best to car share if you can. Leaving a car in Peter Tavy near the Church is probably best in order to save space at Baggator Gate.Bring a hot drink and packed lunch. Wellies with thick socks are okay or waterproof walking boots are also good because the route can be wet. We will visit a number of Dartmoor-365 places and pages from the book by John Hayward if you are a 365-er! (J5 Baggator. J6 Limbroso Cairne. J7 the Upper Walkham, J8 Tavy Hole. H8 Fur Tor) If time allows and visibility is good we will see if we can find the head of the River Tavy where it trickles from the peat! We will meet at 10am and finish the walk hopefully about 5pm but please do not book to come if you are time critical and can not be late off the moor. Bring a torch with you just in case – it’s a long walk. of about 10 miles (16 Kms) of rough terrain. Please book by email for a place on this walk. Limited to 20 walkers. Please check this website on the night before to check if anything has changed or cancelled if bad weather occurs. CAR SHARES – I would suggest meeting at 0930hrs at Peter Tavy Church to sort out car shares to minimise parking in the little space at Baggator! See you at 0930 at the Church for those wanting to car share or at 10am at Baggator Gate. PLEASE ENSURE YOU CHECK THIS WEBSITE ENTRY BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME ON THE MORNING IN CASE THE WALK IS CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER.
